The animal housing is a base item crafted at the BCU. It enables the player to domesticate small animals (chickens and rabbits), which will thereby gradually reach higher levels and, as a result, yield more and higher-quality resources when butchered. As of level 3, chickens will also lay an egg whenever they reach a new level.

Upgrades

Without any upgrades, the animal housing allows only one small animal to be kept at a time, which may also only reach level 3. The following four upgrades are available:

Free Range Allows small animals to roam freely around the animal housing and utlimately reach level 10 while consuming noticeably less food and water.
Feces Tray Collects animal feces which can be used as fertilizer in plant beds.
Additional Slot Allows a second small animal to be kept in the animal housing.
Additional Slot Allows a third small animal to be kept in the animal housing.

When multiple small animals are reared at the same time, this will accordingly affect how long supplied food and water will last for.
