Mining

Mining is an indispensable activity given that most mineral ores (copper, iron, potassium, sandstone, zinc, crystal, and coal) are crucial resources and required in many (particularly advanced) crafting recipes.

Locations

Usually ores are found as ore nodes on large rocks (occasionally also on underwater rocks in lakes). Uniquely, crystal ore and phosphate ore as well as coal can only be found in the dangerous and hard-to-access underwater caves.

Tools

Ores can be mined manually using a pickaxe (or, yielding much less usable ore and under much greater wear for the tool, a normal axe). In addition, copper, iron, potassium, and zinc ore can also be mined automatically using a mining drill.

Refinement

Once gathered, a refinery is necessary to purify most minerals into their refined form in order to process them in crafting recipes. Lumps of coal are an exception, serving as a highly effective type of fuel without the need for any refinement.

Further Information

  • Phosphate is the only type of mineral which, when refined, yields three portions of phosphorus for every one piece of ore. All other minerals, including crystal, refine at a one-to-one ratio.
