Clothing is essential in order to gain protection against physical attacks as well as to avoid freezing. The ability to venture into high-altitude terrain or leave one's base during winter for an extended amount of time all but depends upon proper clothing. Without a campfire (or a woodburner) to keep warm, even the nights will be too cold to avoid damage, since the light pants (the only piece of clothing included in a player's starting gear) offers only miniscule protection against the cold.

While clothing recipes naturally vary, they all inevitably require either cloth or cotton or a combination of the two in the form of padded cloth.


Obtainability

Almost all pieces of clothing must be crafted and cannot be looted either. Hunter jackets are the only exception: these exceedingly rare jackets cannot be crafted at all and must be found in storage crates inside hunter bases. Mining helmets (worn by cave hunters) cannot be crafted or looted elsewhere. For the time being they are unobtainable for the player, and their exact protective qualities are not yet known.
